A New Beginning Animal Rescue Receives $6,500 Petco Foundation Grant to Support Animal Welfare Efforts in Weber and Davis Counties, Utah

Layton, Utah  ( 9/1/2015 ) — A New Beginning Animal Rescue of Layton, Utah , has been awarded a $6,500 grant from the Petco Foundation to fund its rescue, nurture, and adoption initiative.

A New Beginning Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization that is volunteer-operated and embraces the no-kill philosophy,  serving Weber and Davis Counties, Utah.  Since 2008, A New Beginning Animal Rescue has rescued, nurtured, and helped over 3,000 companion animals (kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs – and rabbits) find their forever homes, through its long-standing special partnership with Petco in holding adoption events every Saturday at Petco in Layton, Utah.

The Petco Foundation grant will be used to provide lifesaving veterinary care, spay/neuter procedure, first set of vaccinations and daily nurture; promote pet adoption; and provide transformative public education opportunities on responsible pet ownership, importance of sterilization, and the humane treatment of animals. A portion of funds will be used to offer pet first aid and CPR workshops.

“We are so excited that Petco Foundation selected A New Beginning Animal Rescue to receive this Life Saving Impact Grant.  Pets give us so much and enrich our lives. This generous award will enable us to continue our lifesaving efforts and to meet the medical and daily needs of companion animals in our care, as we help them prepare for their forever homes. It means a lot to a volunteer-driven organization like ANBAR. We are very appreciative,” said Gabriele Johnson, Founder and Executive Director.

The Petco Foundation has served as a voice for companion animals across the country since 1999.  Today, with more than 8,000 local animal-welfare partners across the country, the Petco Foundation donates approximately $15 million a year to make a difference in the lives of millions of animals.  The organization is funded through donations raised during fundraisers conducted in Petco’s more than 1,200 stores across the country, as well as from Petco associates, vendors and corporate contributions.  Money raised helps fund animal-welfare organizations, spay and neuter efforts, animal-assisted therapy programs and humane education.  The majority of the funds raised remain in the communities where they were raised, and the Petco Foundation is also involved in many national animal-welfare efforts.

In 2012, the Petco Foundation surpassed $100 million in funds raised for companion animals since the organization was created.  To learn more, visit www.petcofoundation.org

About A New Beginning Animal Rescue
A New Beginning Animal Rescue is a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue organization serving Davis and Weber Counties, Utah. We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of abused, abandoned, and homeless cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, and rabbits who need of a new beginning and help prepare them for a forever home, through rescue, nurture, and adoption efforts.  We believe that euthanasia should be used only as a humane last resort, to prevent further animal suffering.  We envision a future in which communities do not consider pets as disposable items and embrace their responsibilities as compassionate, responsible guardians and protectors to companion animals. Our goal is to thoughtfully reduce unnecessary euthanasia rates; help change the "throw-away" mentality and improve Weber and Davis Counties’ animal welfare with compassion and respect through community building and public education on the mutual benefits of responsible pet parenting; importance of pet sterilization, and the humane treatment of animals. www.anbrescue.org

About the Petco Foundation

At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life.  Since 1999, we've invested more than $135 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 8,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay/neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we've helped more than 4.2 million pets find their new loving families, and we're just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
