MEET SHOSHANNAH "SHO" COBB, dedicated Volunteer and Foster since February 2014. For our inaugural Volunteer Spotlight, we asked her a few questions about herself and her experience as an ANBAR Volunteer...
How did you come to know about A New Beginning Animal Rescue?
I found out about ANBAR when I came in during an adoption event and adopted a 5 month old kitten.
What originally drew you to A New Beginning Animal Rescue?
I was drawn to ANBAR after I adopted the kitten from the adoption event, I stayed in touch with the kitten's foster mom and she told me about the rescue and how I could get involved.
Do you have a primary focus when you volunteer?
My primary focus when I volunteer is the well-being of the animals. I like to make sure they are at their best, physically and behaviorally.
When I work at the cat center and clean the cages at Petco, I check the cats for signs of illness, play with them and help with their socialization. The happier they are, the better they show their personalities at adoption events. And that really is the ultimate goal, getting them adopted by loving families.
Is there a favorite experience that has stood out during your time as a volunteer at A New Beginning Animal Rescue?
My favorite experience as an ANBAR volunteer has been my time at the cat center. I have fostered 3 cats from the cat center that have all gone to their furever homes, and that means the world to me.
How does what do you do for a career apply to what you do as a volunteer?
I recently retired from the US Air Force. I served 20 years as a chaplain assistant, taking care of people's well-being. After my retirement, I decided I would continue to take care of others, however those I now help have four legs instead of two.
Why do you volunteer for A New Beginning Animal Rescue?
I volunteer for ANBAR because even as a child, I was always taking care of animals, often bringing home stray cats and dogs. I enjoy what I do with ANBAR, and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with them.
What value has volunteering at A New Beginning Animal Rescue brought you?
Volunteering at ANBAR has been very fulfilling. I always have a sense that what I am doing is making a difference. I believe that is why I was put on this planet.
