It appeared that Marvel’s back leg was likely wrapped by the umbilical cord in utero, and it didn’t finish forming. The tip of the leg had a very thin layer of skin over the bone that would easily break open and bleed. It took many tries, and poor Marvel had to endure many terrible cries of pain, before her foster mom was able to settle on the best way to bandage and protect the leg. The tip of the bandage was covered in a finger from a latex glove to help keep it dry. This bandage had to be changed every 5 days in order to inspect the leg and ensure that no infection was forming. Poor Marvel had to brave these many upsetting events numerous times over the weeks.
